Today we celebrate the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Let's honor his life and legacy by passing voting rights protections. #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct #ForThePeopleAct

From Rep. Cicilline, representing Rhode Island

An anonymous GOP lawmaker texts then WH chief of staff Meadows within hours of the polls closing, proposing a way to disenfranchise millions of voters because election officials were still counting legal votes and Trump’s victory was not assured.

We need to make H.R.1, the #ForThePeopleAct, law NOW before it’s too late.

Our democracy is hanging in balance. #AbolishTheFilibuster

From Rep. Sherman, representing California

Today I voted to pass the #ProtectingOurDemocracy Act, a bill I co-sponsored. It's the third pillar in our fight to protect our democracy, along with the #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct and the #ForThePeopleAct, two bills I helped to introduce and pass in the House.

From Rep. Strickland, representing Washington

If we lose our democracy, we lose everything.

That's why voted YES on Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-CA-28)'s #ProtectingOurDemocracy Act, the 3rd pillar of @HouseDemocrats' Democracy Agenda.

We need this bill, along with the #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct & the #ForThePeopleAct, to get the job done.

From Rep. Smith, representing Washington

Today the House is voting on the #ProtectingOurDemocracy Act - a consequential bill for the future of our democracy.

The past 4 years have exposed vulnerabilities in our system and this bill will safeguard our democracy from similar threats in the future. (1/3)

This bill will:
-Prevent presidential abuses by reforming ethics laws for the President.
-Restore our system of checks and balances by strengthening congressional investigations and Inspectors General (IG).
-Protect our elections by closing loopholes on foreign donations. (2/3)

I strongly support the #ProtectingOurDemocracy Act. Along with the House-passed John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the #ForthePeopleAct, these bills will ensure that our defining ideal of democracy endures for generations to come. (3/3)

A1: Happy to be here! I am the Chair of @House_DRTF, and I introduced #HR1, the #ForThePeopleAct, earlier this year. I care deeply about protecting our democracy and ensuring all Americans have a vote and a voice in our politics. #FTVtownhall

NEW: The FEC has ruled foreign donors can finance U.S. referendum campaigns, opening the door to foreign spending on fights over high-profile policy issues, Axios has learned.

Foreign donors shouldn't be influencing our elections, no matter whether it's at the federal, state, or local level. In my first term, I successfully amended #HR1, the #ForThePeopleAct, to outlaw these contributions, and I've introduced legislation this year to do the same thing.

I'd like to commend my colleagues who worked so hard to weaken the #ForThePeopleAct so that it could finally secure the support of zero Republican Senators.

Let's stop deluding ourselves. #EndTheFilibuster and save our democracy.

From Rep. Maloney, representing New York

I commend Sen. Charles E. (Chuck) Schumer (D-NY) and @SenateDems for taking up this important legislation.

But, if it fails to garner sufficient Republican support to pass, we must stop negotiating with ourselves and pass the #ForThePeopleAct by eliminating the filibuster.

Republicans have an opportunity today to allow debate to go forward on the #FreedomToVoteAct and propose any amendments they would like.

As I said in September, we shouldn’t negotiate with ourselves if they will not engage us on voting rights. It's time we #EndTheFilibuster

Michiganders won't be fooled. This initiative is nothing more than a blatant attempt to make it harder to vote. Congress needs to step up and pass the #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct and the #ForThePeopleAct.
